Email marketing is not dead. According to Kissmetrics, email marketing is crushing social media with email having nearly three times as many user accounts as Facebook and Twitter combined.

Here are 10 tips for email marketing campaigns from HubSpot social media scientist, Dan Zarrella. All of this info is based on HubSpot's email marketing campaign data. If you want more email marketing resources visit the HubSpot blog.

Email Marketing Tips:

  1. Saturdays and Sundays are the best days to send out emails. Weekends have a much higher click-through-rate (CTR) for email marketing campaigns.

  2. New subscribers (users who signed up 2 weeks ago or less) have the highest CTR. Therefore, email new subscribers more often, nurture those leads!

  3. Drop off in registration starts to happen when form field types get more complex and have drop down menus. It is OK to have as many one line text entry fields as you want, but don't require leads to fill out too much info.

  4. People don't want to give out their age, phone number or street address. Zip code, city, state are OK.

  5. Buttons should include terms like "Sign Up”, “Get Free...”, “Go” and “Click Here”.

  6. Buttons should NOT have the words "Submit", "Download" or "Register" because according to HubSpot, they are too committal and have lower CTR.

  7. Subject lines should not have question marks?, (parentheses) or # hashtags. These types of email subjects experience a much lower CTR.

  8. Stack your emails full of links. Links demonstrate that you are providing the viewer with value. More links = higher CTR.

  9. Pages with words such as “Webinar”, “Whitepaper”, “ Free Download”, “Report”, and "Free" have higher CTR.

  10. Pages with words “Quote”, “Price”, “Services”,“Demo”, and “Request” have lower CTR.
