About a week ago, Jason and I were discussing a fax that we were expecting to recieve.  Yes, a real fax ... short for facsimile, for those that don't know.  Anyway, "Expecting" is actually more positive than I should really say ... it was more like "hoping", and not because we questioned that it would be sent, but, I must admit that our confidence wasn't 100% that we would receive.  We use eFax, but it still requires manual input, a functional mechanical piece of equipment (on the sender side), a good connection, and a final transmission that is encoded properly ... only then can it go to my 'inbox'.

Obviously, a lot has to happen, and that is just to get a simple fax.  We can only really take the mechanics out of the equation in order to alternatively use email, but think about the advantages..email is faster, more reliable, doesn't depend on pulleys, gears, a phone line, or imaging equipment.  Your email leaves a much more reliable trace of when someone sent and when someone receives.

The digital age is so here that it's taken for granted in ways that even 20 years ago could never have been predicted.  How can it be that there are 20 year olds that have never seen a real vinyl record or circular dialed home phone?
