If something has gone wrong or you need something, our clients actually have someone to call that will deal with the problem. We have tried the more economical alternative (and yes, that means the big guys) and have learned that they have the best intentions. On most shared hosting environments, you are provided with a % of the processor time as well as the bandwidth for the server (in addition to the other 500 websites that the web hosting company has on that server). This means that your solution may not have the resources needed to accomplish difficult tasks when needed. We believe that the large web hosting system providers are ingenious to constantly "one-up" each other from a marketing perspective. It could be said that 99% of the world's websites won't have trouble meeting the minimum of the "smallest" plan available.
